DIY Dolphin shorts with Lace pockets
Welcome back to my blog!
Today I'm sharing with you how I made a cute dolphin shorts with lace pockets.
I am browsing Pinterest as usual when I came across this cutie! ❤️️
I believe it came from this website:
Though I'm unable to find it there anymore but that's where the Pinterest link came from.
Anyway, let's start!
Things you need:
0.75 yard of cotton fabric
lace fabric
elastic
coordinating threads
pins
ruler
french curve (optional)
sewing machine
Pattern making.
Just trace around any shorts that fit you then you can modify it later on.
Cutting.
You should have:
- waistband (6 inches width if unfolded, 3 inches on fold)
- 2 bindings (2 inches width)
- 2 front piece
- 2 back piece
- 2 pockets (8" x 7") or you can modify to your desired length
Sewing.
Use the guide below on which parts to sew first.
See below on how to sew bindings:
For the pockets, I just cut an 8" by 7" rectangle and sewn lace on top.
Adjust the pockets on the sides to make it fit your waist.
Lastly, sew the waist band and leave an inch gap to insert the elastic.
Optional: I hand-sewn a shoe lace to make it a ribbon for added cuteness. ❤️️
I highly suggest to try them on first before sewing. Believe me because I learned it the hard way. lol
This is actually the second time I'm sewing shorts. The first one I had sewn it based on the pattern and didn't adjust the fitting so it ended up being too loose or baggy. I tried making one again and this time I added lace pockets.
Let me know your thoughts and if you have done this tutorial please let me see it! ♥
Disclaimer: I don't have any formal sewing training that's why you'd be able to see obvious flaws. I'm still learning. I'm just a self-taught amateur hobbyist that learned from watching YouTube videos and blogs.
