Baby doll top with ruffle sleeves tutorial ❤
Hi lovelies!
I want to share with you how I made a ruffle sleeve baby doll top inspired by SheIn's.
I fell in love with how cute and simple it is.
At first, I considered ordering from their website however since I'm from the Philippines, the shipping costs too much for me so I decided to just make one for myself!
Things you need:
1 and 1/2 to 2 yards of jersey cotton knit fabric
white thread
pins
ruler
french curve
sewing machine
(you can also hand sew if you have a lot of patience ♡)

First, make a pattern. Find a top that fits you well. I used my Mama's "pambahay" since it is loose enough which is how I wanted my top to be.
Trace around the top and add 1 inch seam allowance. I did not add a seam allowance for the armholes since I will be adding sleeves to it.
For the sleeves, fold the paper in half (folded side at the top) then trace around the armhole. Add your desired arm length plus seam allowance. I must admit this is the part where I spent a lot of time since this is the first time I'm adding sleeves and I'm making my own pattern for it. But don't worry, it worked! lol
After drafting your pattern, cut your fabric pieces.
Your fabric pieces should be:
- front
- back
- neckband (2 inches wide)
- a pair of sleeves
- a pair of sleeve ruffles (5 inches wide including seam allowance)
- bottom ruffle (mine is 10 inches plus 1 inch seam allowance)
Use the guide below on which parts to sew first.
For the ruffles, sew a basting stitch but do not back stitch or lock it since you will use it to gather the fabric. Make sure your sewing machine is set to the highest stitch length. Mine is 5 on my brother Innov-Is.
After gathering, pin the ruffles to the bodice and adjust the gather as needed. Don't forget to hem the edges.
Sew all the pieces together and you should have yourself a very cute top! ❤
Let me know your thoughts and if you have done this tutorial please let me see it! ❤
